WELCOME TO RICHMOND
Richmond, the original "Capital of the South," is a city with many historic values, yet
also strong in economic growth. A drive down scenic Monument Avenue exemplifies our rich
history. The surrounding counties of Henrico, Chesterfield, Hanover, Goochland, Powhatan
and New Kent show the ever "booming" growth of Richmond.
Nicely located midway between the north and south, all major cities can easily be reached
by plane. Another advantage is the ease to which many vacation spots can be reached.
Virginia Beach is only a two hour drive as are both Washington, DC and the beautiful
Blue Ridge mountains. Historic Colonial Williamsburg, which also holds the major attraction
of Bush Gardens, is only an hour's drive. Also close by is the famous Paramount's Kings
Dominion. Other nearby historic attractions are: the city of Charlottesville, which is
home to Thomas Jefferson Monticello and the University of Virginia, Mount Vernon,
Jamestown, a multitude of Civil War battlegrounds stretching from Fredericksburg to
nearby Petersburg and several dozen famous and lovely old plantation homes.
Staying in Richmond itself offers everything from Museums, clubs, parks, and "Broadway
entertainment" to all types of festivals. All culinary palettes can be satisfied in Richmond
with every type of food available. The dining runs from casual neighborhood eateries to
elegant downtown and Shockoe Slip restaurants.
For the sports enthusiast, the James River offers fishing, boating, water skiing, sunbathing,
and even class 4 white water rafting! The nearby Northern Neck of Virginia is only a one
and half hour drive, situated on the Chesapeake Bay and several rivers and home to many
Yacht Clubs. Other sporting activities in the Richmond area include all types of hunting,
public and private golf courses and country clubs, several rugby clubs, indoor and outdoor
soccer leagues and several private swim clubs as well as subdivision and recreational pool
with summer and year-round swim teams that compete up and down the whole east cost of the
United States. For those who prefer spectator sports we have The Richmond's Braves AAA
baseball, The Richmond Renegades hockey, members of the East Coast Hockey League, the
Richmond Kickers Soccer team and the Richmond Ravens, a semi-pro football team.
Downtown Richmond's ever changing skyline is proof that the business community, which
includes Fortune 500 companies, major banks, brokerage houses, and entrepreneurial ventures,
is still growing. Also, close to downtown are some "must see" areas of Richmond including
Shockoe Slip, The Bottom, Church Hill and Tobacco Row.
Richmond is proud of its historic past and offers the new-comer much to experience, yet
also offers an ever-changing environment of growth and newness.
Whether you are a "history buff" or looking for a new and exciting change,
you will find that Richmond has many faces and the friendly, diverse people
of the community will welcome you and make you feel right at home.
